How to Remotely Lock a Lost Android Device

Android Device Manager is now capable of locking your lost android phone remotely. If your lost device is still on and connected to the¬†internet you can use Android Device Manager to remotely ring, lock, or erase that device. The Device Manager will also tell your device’s location. So, before erasing or locking try to locate and ring the device it might be hidden under your pillow.

The procedure is kept as easy as One, Two, Three. But still, it requires some very essential steps to be followed. In this post, we will explain step by step How to remotely lock a lost Android device.

Note: If you are helping your friend find or lock his phone, please open Incognito Window and then ask your friend to login the Google Account used on lost device.

How to remotely lock a lost Android device.

Step 1: Go to Settings >> Google >> Security >> here under Android Device Manager Check the options to remotely locate your device and to allow remote lock and factory reset. This option must be enabled at all times since you won’t be able to do anything once you lost the device.

Step 2: Access the Android Device Manager website then select the lost device.

Step 3: Now you have three options at your disposal Ring, Lock and Erase.

  • Ring
    • Rings your phone at full volume for 5 minutes, even its in silent or vibration mode.
  • Lock
    • Click on Lock to enter new password. This will replace your current password and you will use the new password to unlock the phone when you find it. Please note that don’t use your Google password. In the same dialogue box you can type recovery message and phone number. You can give any friend or family member phone number so whoever finds your phone could immediately contact.
  • Erase
    • This option will erase all the data. Basically, this performs factory reset on your device. After you erase the device Android Device Manager will no longer work. If your lost device is offline, factory reset will be performed as soon as it goes online.
