Prerequisites

  1. Your phone must be running on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo Firmware.
  2. This guide is only for Exynos Variants of Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge.
  3. Now go to Settings > About Phone > Tap on the Build Number several times to Enable Developer Options. From Developer Options “Enable OEM Unlock”.
  4. Make sure USB Debugging mode is enabled on your Android Device. You can enable USB Debugging by going to Settings > Developer Options.
  5. Download Latest Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge USB Drivers.

How to Root Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Running on Android 8.0 Oreo

  • First of all, launch Odin on your PC and click on the AP tab, select the downloaded TWRP recovery.img.tar file.
  • Power off your device and boot it in Download Mode. To so, press and hold Volume Down + Home + Power buttons
  • Now, connect your phone to the PC via USB cable while it’s still in download mode.
  • In Odin tool one of the ID: COM boxes will turn Blue. This means your phone is connected successfully.
  • Before clicking on Start make sure only Reset Time option is selected. All other options, including Auto Reboot, must be unticked.
  • Now, click on the Start button and let Odin flash TWRP Custom Recovery on your device.
  • Once its flashed, reboot your device into recovery mode. To do so, press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power button. Make sure your phone stays connected to the computer during the whole process.
  • TWRP will ask you to swipe the screen to allow modifications. Swipe without any hesitation as we are here to root the device.
  • At this point, you won’t see internal storage of your device. Worry not, it hasn’t gone anywhere. Tap the Wipe option >> Format data or perform a factory reset.
  • Your phone will now show the internal storage.
  • Tap on the Mount Option to transfer files from your computer to your phone. Your device will be mounted as a USB storage device, therefore, your phone will appear as USB storage on your computer now.
  • Transfer SuperSu zip file and No DM-Verity file to the internal storage of your phone.
  • Now go back to the TWRP Main Menu and tap Install >> Install Zip >> Locate and select SueprSU zip file and flash it.
  • Repeat above step to flash No DM-Verity file.
  • Reboot your device now.
