How to Activate Google Assistant with Bixby Button – Remap the Bixby Button on the Galaxy S8/S8+

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 + was released last week and come with a button called Bixby. For people who are not up to date, Bixby is the name of the virtual assistant software of Samsung that is supposed to work similar to the Google assistant. Although the Galaxy S8 still needs to be in the hands of buyers, people who checked the cell phone prefer to have the Bixby button launch Google Assistant instead of Bixby itself.

Marques Brownlee (@MHHD) was one of those who proposed the remapping of Bixby button, he said —
“First one that makes an app to remap the Bixby button on the Galaxy S8 to Google Assistant wins my $$$”. This is what made then rush to find a way to launch Google assistant from the Bixby button, and today a person from Reddit called Homeguy123 confirmed that it is totally possible, as we can see in the following YouTube video:

Through a free application called “All in one Gestures”- which is available in the Google Play Store, the Bixby button could be correctly restored to start with the Google application. How to Activate Google Assistant with Bixby Button – Remap the Bixby Button on the Galaxy S8/S8+

Step1 :- When All in One Gestures is installed, launch it.The first thing to do is to allow the access to modify the system configuration.
Step2 :- When you are in the application, press where it says “Hard Keys”.

Step3 :- Now press Enable; A message will appear asking you to enable All in one Gestures’ Accessibility Service. Access settings and scroll to where it says “All In One Gestures” in the services part.

Step 4 :-  Press the OFF button to switch it ON, this will enable All in one Gestures’ Accessibility Service.

Step5 :- After doing this, press the back button few times until you get back to “All In One Gestures”.
Step6 :- Now, we are ready to reconfigure/remap the Bixby button.  Press the Overflow / Menu Button in top right corner. Then you can see the option called Custom Keys.

Step7 :- You tap on that to see a box asking to “Add Custom Key” Once you have seen the box, press the Bixby button and immediately press back to return to “All In One Gestures”.
Step8 :- When you get back there, you will see that the Key Code field is filled with the number 1082. This is the key code that was commanded by the Bixby button when you pressed it. Press Add to get “All In One Gestures” add it as a key code that will listen and intercept.

Step9 :- Click on the circle box next to the code (1082), under Custom Keys, to open another box. The first screen that shows up is called Action. Tap on search and when the search options appear, select Voice Search. When you are done with it, you should see Voice Search below the code (1082) in the Custom Key part of the application.

Step10: – Now you can press the Bixby button to launch the Google Assistant.
