How Google Calendar Spam Works
Google Calendar Spam is different from the usual spam. In its case, it gets flooded with phony events for which you haven’t even signed up. How this phony event invites slips into your daily calendar is an interesting story. It’s very easy for scammers to reach Google calendars. All they need to do is to send you an email on your Gmail account with an event invite attached. Now you must be thinking that this spam email must go to the spam folder and shouldn’t bother you. Unfortunately, this is not the case. Even though the spam mail goes right into the Spam Folder, your Calendar will, by default, automatically pick it up and add it to the appropriate calendar. How to Block Google Calendar Spam
- Go to your Google Calendar’s Web Portal. Click the gear icon in the top right corner and select Settings.
- On the Settings page, use the scrollable menu of the left-side to select Event Settings.
- Now, on the right side look for the option that says “Automatically add invitations”.
- From the drop-down menu — select the option “No, only show invitations to which I have responded.”
Next, we need to prevent Google Calendar from adding all events that appear in your Gmail:
- On the same Settings page, scroll down a bit further and look for the option that says “Events from Gmail.”
- On the right-hand panel, find the “Events from Gmail” heading and uncheck “Automatically add events from Gmail to my calendar.”
- Click “OK” on the warning box that appears.
Lastly, we need to hide the spam events which you had removed.
- Staying on the same Settings page, search for “View Options” heading on the left side in the scrollable menu.
- Uncheck “Show declined events.”
- Now open Google Calendar App on your Android phone.
- Tap on the burger icon in the top left corner to bring up the menu panel.
- Scroll all the way down the menu panel to find and tap “Settings.”
- At the top of the Settings menu, tap “General.”
- In General Settings portion search for “Show declined events” and toggle the switch to the “off” position.
- That’s it! Now, canceled or declined events won’t show on your Calendar.
