After a major update, it takes some time until all applications are fully optimized. Well, we think this is the case with all the Galaxy users who have updated to the latest One UI. You must be living under the rock if you haven’t heard people complaining about their Galaxy devices draining battery way too fast after updating their devices to One UI. Therefore, we decided to lay out some workarounds which will fix battery drain issue after updating your device to One UI. Android Pie update has brought a lot of bug fixes but, unfortunately, it has also exposed users to poor battery life.

This issue is not acknowledged by Samsung at the moment, therefore, it means we are not going to see a patch rolling out anytime soon. So, we have to take things in our hands to fix the battery drain issue ourselves.

Check for the latest update:

You got this battery drain issue because you updated your device to One UI. maybe, there is another update rolled out and you didn’t get the notification. So, manually check for the updates.

  • Go to Settings >>  Software Update  >>  here tap on ‘Download updates manually’.  Your device will now search for any new update. If one is found, download and install it.

Recalibrate the battery:

You should recalibrate your phone battery after every big software update. The battery recalibration mostly fixes the battery drain issue.

How to Recalibrate Battery?

To do so, charge your phone up to 100% and remove the charging cable. Now use your phone normally and let the battery die itself. Once your phone turns off because of battery charge reaching 0%, plug it to the wall charger while keeping the device off. Let the device be charged to 100% before turning it On. Repeat the same cycle for 3-4 times and your phone’s battery will get calibrated.

Identify and put high-battery using apps to sleep:

We have seen in the past that some apps consume way too much battery because they keep on running in the background. So, whenever you face battery drain issue it’s worth checking that if there are some apps which are eating up all your battery.

  • Go to Settings >> Device Maintenance/Care.
  • In device maintenance, tap on Battery and wait for sometime before the system gives you the list of apps.
  • From this list, you can see which app is eating up your device’s battery.
  • If there is an app, all you have to do is tap on the application -> Turn on the Put app to sleep option.
  • You can always uninstall the app if it’s not that important to you.

Perform a factory data reset:

If nothing works, then there’s always the option of Performing Factory Data Reset. After performing this, your phone will be as new as it came out of the factory. Beware, that all your data will be lost.

  1. Switch off your phone by pressing and holding the Power Button for a couple of seconds.
  2. Now, press and hold Bixby button (right below the volume keys), Volume Up, and Power button at the same time.
  3. Release the keys as soon as Recovery Mode shows up on the screen.
  4. Once you are in recovery mode, navigate to the option “wipe data/factory reset” using Volume Down key.
  5. Press the power button to make the selection.
  6. On the next screen, highlight yes and press the power button to perform factory data reset.
